Nepali is spoken by nearly 20 million people. It was the language of the Khasa kingdom in what is now Nepal during the 13th and 14th centuries. There are also a large number of speakers in India, mostly in the state of Sikkim, and also in the Darjeeling district in the state of West Bengal. There are a considerable number of speakers in Bhutan, and small emigrant populations in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Territory size shows the proportion of all people who speak Nepali as a first language that live in that territory.
