Vietnamese is spoken as a first language by approximately 73 million people in around 12 territories. It is spoken by nearly 90% of the population of Viet Nam, and by more than a million people in the United States. It is also spoken in large numbers in Australia, Canada and Cambodia (where it has similarities to the official language, Khmer).
