Injuries and deaths directly due to war in combatants and non-combatants are counted here. This includes deaths of children and adults from landmines. The datasets used here often rely on press reports of eyewitness accounts and official announcements of combatants. Estimated deaths due to landmines and unexploded ammunition and bombs (especially cluster bombs) are added in separately. War caused 0.3% of all deaths worldwide in 2002, an average of 28 deaths per million people per year. |
