This map shows people who are imprisoned, but have not yet been convicted. In 2006, there were possibly 2.8 million such prisoners. Of all prisoners, 30% were awaiting trial. The territories where the largest proportion of prisoners have not yet been tried for the crime they are accused of are Haiti at 84%, Andorra at 77% and Bolivia at 75%.

The map shows slightly more prisoners awaiting trial in China than in the United States. The third largest population of prisoners awaiting trial live in India. The number of prisoners awaiting trial per ten thousand people living there was 4 in China, 16 in the United States and 2 in India.
